FIV/FELV Blood Test

Importance:

  • Testing for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) and Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV) is crucial for maintaining the health of your feline family.

  • These viruses are highly contagious and can lead to serious health issues, including weakened immune systems and increased susceptibility to other infections.

Procedure:

  1. Current Cats:

    • Test all existing cats for FIV and FeLV before introducing a new kitten. This helps ensure that any existing infection is identified and managed before potential exposure to a new pet.

  2. New Kitten:

    • If acquiring a kitten from a breeder whose cats have been tested negative, the kitten is considered negative by parentage. Otherwise, test the new kitten directly for FIV and FeLV.
